Teal

For the lack of a better title, let’s just name this post a random colour.

To me, Teal is a colour that is both Green and Blue combined.

(Where blue = clear skies, and Green = bamboos) as you can see from my Kyoto trip below! Haha whoever keeps telling me that I suck as a photographer, bitch please.

Anyway as random as teal came to my mind, the inception of this post is equally as random. Some couple of weeks ago, my momma had to undergo a minor surgery cos of womanly woes. And because of that, there have been a series of follow-ups at her Doctor’s clinic. So momma and I spent quite a number of mother-daughter bonding moments together as I accompanied her to the hospital and to the clinic.

Truth be told, I loved every minute of it :‘)

The past few weeks together, Momma and I have been inseparable. We did aerobics together, cooked our meals together, cleaned the house together, went for massage together, did the laundry together where I hung them up, while she clipped them down. #oxymoron

So at the most recent visit to the gynecologist’s clinic, both Momma and I realized that majority of the patients waiting to see the Doctor were young expectant mothers (probably in their late 20’s or early 30’s).
That made Momma the oldest patient there.

Momma: “Wow in 7 years time I will be 60 years old.”

Me: “Can you, not?!?”

Momma: “Then in 20 years time, I will be 70 plus. sigh

Me: “Holy shit that makes me 40 plus!!!!”

Momma: “Hahahahahahaha”

-_-

Then I started thinking about Life again!!!! Oh sighpie. Why is time flying by in such a quick manner suddenly? One week used to feel like eternity when I had to punch a sickening string of numbers into my GC some years back. And today, I got reminded by a Tumblr user that we are, I quote, more than half way done with 2015. Daheck??? I thought I just came back from Europe not long ago! It was only 2014 back then. How did half a year just go by without me noticing?!

See.

That’s exactly when I realized I need to start living. Each moment. Each minute. It all adds up. Sometimes we say, “aiya ok 5 minutes more then I will do this-this-this and that-that-that.” But 5 minutes everyday, compounded daily will add up to x-number of years in your life! :0

Some people who are around the same age range as I am, will say things like, “Wah I feel so old already”, without realizing that their parents are feeling it 10x worse. These people live with pessimism with each passing day, thinking that the end of the world is near. But seriously though, come on! Being in your 20s is pretty much the PRIME of your life! You still are young and you still can do some pretty cool things, explore, learn, discover. Life ain’t a destination. It’s a journey.

Then there’s the other extreme on the continuum where some live as though they are forever 16. They do not care about anything or anyone in this world, living each day with a full fledged 'fuck-care attitude’. In other words, people who are ardent fans of the YOLO movement. My response to this group would be that you are most definitely selfish for thinking only of yourself. Your parents have worked so hard all these years to make ends meet and bring you up in a comfortable environment. But all you did was to squander their hard-earned money away. So sad, really.

I most definitely have an array of friends tucked under these 2 extreme ends. But most fall somewhere in between. For myself, some days I find myself in the former camp, while other days in the latter. I guess the important thing is to strike a balance between the two.

Then, I also have friends who are already married in their mid-20s. As usual, there will be the same two opposing camps. The first will say, “You are still so young. Go travel and don’t settle yet!” Then the second will say, “The older you marry and give birth, next time you will have health complications as well as a late retirement age.”

Someone wise once said, “Age is, after all, just a number.” And rightly so it is. I am 23 years old, going on twenty-four in 8 months’ time.

What exactly do I want to achieve? Or what have I achieved?

And what about you?

Melancholy

I took a nap this afternoon. But before my eye lids could close fully, and my mind could drift off, I was swarmed with guilt. Guilty for taking a nap when I really should be practicing what I suck at. (i.e. Computer Simulation). Guilty... Continue →
