Productivity

Did I tell you I have a CCTV behind me in office???!!!
My computer screen faces the CCTV and it just annoys me knowing that whatever I type could very well be seen by whomever and whatever…… #SEVENMONTH

Ok nevermind joke over. I don’t wanna joke over such stuff anyway.

So I am rotting day in and day out at office, and it makes me nervous. Having to keh-siao that I have things to do isn’t exactly my cup of tea. And it doesn’t help that I have a CCTV behind me. But heck it. I have decreased the zoom size of this page to 25% just so I can type here and kinda “have something to do”……..

Lifting my phone up to type is too obvious so that’s a tough one. Using Facebook and Instagram are definite no-nos.

So I Google things like: What is Productivity?, and Channelnewsasia.com everytiem.

I have friends in this company, but they sit downstairs in the HR department. So it doesn’t look nice on my part to go downstairs all the time but I have been taking coffee breaks at their level every now and then…….

Well, I guess this is what it means when they say, “Welcome to the real world”. Things just got complicated by 100 fold. Office politics are an inherent issue that is definitely present, but everyone wishes not to talk about it. But it’s not as if living an ignorant life helps solve anything.

ANYWAY, since I am at the topic of Productivity, reading this article makes me wonder if Government spending really helps build up Productivity levels in a nation? To me, how I see it is that most Singaporeans feel underpaid and overworked. So they come into office, take 2-hour lunch breaks, 1-hour coffee breaks and so don’t prioritize many job-related tasks. Simply because they feel short-changed.

Then if that is the case, shouldn’t we, as society address that first before trying to increase Govt. spending on more training and development courses??? It’s a lot like falling back to the fundamentals of teaching a young kid. Once ingrained in them, the rest comes easier. But of course, most Singaporeans aren’t simple minded machines anymore. And in fact, this is a side effect of pushing for high education standards across its people. (nothing wrong with that, just FYI).

And if you asked me, I’ll be frank with you. We, Gen-Y people are nothing more but a by-product of YOUR upbringing that you, Gen-X and whatever other generation you may fall into have inculcated into us with…………… Sounds a bit of blame pushing but if you look at the algebra formula, it all adds up.

From previous internships, I can assure you that Gen-X-ers are the ones who are highly self entitled. They were probably the generation where holding a Degree meant they were special. And thus, they are also the ones who managed to rise to a Managerial level far quicker than my parents’ generation. And this causes them to be arrogant and highly unproductive. (Sorry, not sorry) #TruthHurts

And because of their high incompetence levels, they put people like us, new and fresh Gen-Y Uni graduates in a bad light. From what I see, it’s the Gen-X people who are unwilling to change, unwilling to take on more tasks than they already have, and are always creating office politics.

Sidenote: Gen X people to me are those who are in their late 30’s to early 40’s.

Okay rant over, and I am glad I just killed 15 minutes of my time to allow my fingers to move at the very least.

Cheers,
Cam.
